In a 40 mph frontal overlap crash? Below are your options.
1- 2003 Discovery II
2- 2006 Brilliance BS6
3 - 1991 Volvo 24o

I’d feel safer in an already wrecked Volvo 240 over the other 2.

I’d say the Disco, actually. Because it’s bigger and more modern than the Vo’. Anyone who picks the Brilliance is a bit of an idiot.
Although, that’s assuming the Disco actually runs. Which, considering it’s a Discovery, it probably doesn’t.

240 all day.

Give me the Swedish fridge

I found a Volvo in the junkyard that looked like it was 2 feet shorter than it should have been, looked like it slammed straight into a brick wall; however, the doors opened and closed like nothing had been done to the car, I was amazed.

You are safe (your legs might not be).

The 240 may have been designed with small overlaps in mind, to be honest.

at least it has an airbag

They are very safe against bumps and scrapes, but I imagine the driver’s head ended up being the crumple zone

The Brilliance is certain death. The Discovery is still a Discovery. So the Volvo.

We’re talking regular overlaps and not small overlaps here right?
![]() 06/20/2016 at 17:40 |

I hope you get the optional airbag, if not, the Disco was the safest choice.
![]() 06/20/2016 at 17:40 |

You might be safe, provided you have the optional airbag.
![]() 06/20/2016 at 17:41 |

If you ticked the optional airbag box, you are safe, if not the Disco was the safe choice.

Medium overlap here
![]() 06/20/2016 at 17:41 |

Yes, medium overlaps, there is no data for small overlap until very recently

#1? The rest probably would be an even bigger mess in such an accident.

The Land Rover. It'll be broken and not running, therefore not going 40 MPH and crashing.

LR Disco II.

Correct. You are safe.

Correct answer, you are safe.

Hmm, I guess still give me the Volvo. If you were asking about a 2016 Chinese shitbox I might be tempted to pick that, but in 2006, I’m guessing they still fold like an accordion, even for a well known and understood test.

Correct.
![]() 06/20/2016 at 17:54 |

I wouldn’t want to be in the Brilliance trying to get somewhere, let alone in an accident. Chinese cars are crumple zones for other cars.

depends I say LR if you are colliding with another tall vehicle or a truck, anything else probably the 240. Might also choose the 240 because the lr could flip before you come to a stop.

As much as I think the disco will break down before it hits 40, that’s my choice.
![]() 06/20/2016 at 22:21 |

I’d go with #1, because it’s the only one on the list that I would actually care to drive, therefore it would be the one that I would be most likely to be behind the wheel of in a crash.
It isn’t at all safe by modern standards though, like I give a damn about any of that crap.
![]() 06/20/2016 at 23:02 |

Sadly not the Volvo. The Disco at least has multiple airbags!

The Land rover, you might drive over the other car.
Also, definitely not an RX-8, did that once:
